Sitting with friends, in an open field, surrounded by a million stars, my thoughts crept back to the social event we had going on back on campus. Social media was flooded, people looking like they were having the best time. However, during this time, in that field, I had never felt so full and surrounded by love. It was real, the raw and honest truth of our lives hung in the air- good and bad. I was joyful, to be sitting in that field surrounded by stars, rather than surrounded in a place I where I didn't feel real joy- just temporary happiness- and realized God blessed me with these friendships that night and instead of feeling the regret of missing out, I felt strength, bliss, and at peace. He showed me, life is bigger than the best social, formal, or semi- bigger than the boy you think you like, or the bad grade you get on a test. Life is big, but by knowing Him, it becomes even bigger.
Take the worst thing that’s ever happened to you. Sit in it, run through the emotions and thoughts you had, and what pulled you out. How did it change you, the good and the bad? Perhaps you’re still in that bad. What you believe to be the worst, your on-going low. How you can’t seem to walk up to the top of that hill and find joy in your life- for the low to be behind you, looking down on it. The low could be the worst break-up you’ve had- it could be a divorce, a death, or depression. It could be that life keeps kicking you down in school, or you can't seem to find your place in this world- your group of friends. Maybe it’s your own internal struggle of who you are- are you happy with the person you are, do you feel as if you're who you're supposed to be? Do you feel fulfilled, with or waiting for your purpose so you can stop walking around mindlessly for the thing that’s going to give you a sense of determination?
Lastly, are you joyful- are you chasing joy daily and content with the person you are? These are a cycle of questions we all face. The questions, doubts, and struggles you face about yourself- it’s sin creeping into your life, turning you away from God and the promises He’s made. Proof, in Psalm 139:14; that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We were made intricately with a plan in mind and beauty and grace, in a reflection of Him, and in that we have the potential to live fully- rich or poor, ugly or beautiful- these factors the world has used to define people don’t apply in the Kingdom of Heaven. To have the same life opportunity that will bring Joy- live your whole life chasing Him, you will find joy and peace and a life longer than you can wrap your head around.
He’s made us in His image- to love him, to know Him, which drives out sin. Drives out the doubts you have. Your deepest insecurities, the mistakes you’ve made, they don’t have to haunt you. They don’t have to define you. They don’t have to own you.
Life is bigger than this- your lows, your faults, your sins- there is a full life promised to us if we trust in Him. Because, in the lows, He’ll carry you. In the high’s, you’ll see him as well- for bringing you there, blessing you. So, turn away from those doubts, insecurities, and mistakes. Chase the light, because, in that, the phrase, “Life is Bigger,” will ring truth and meaning.
