It’s hard to believe that I have one more year. I just got here. Now comes the time where I have to decide my future all over again. Part of me wants to run free like a bird, and the other part of me says you worked this hard, so put it to use. I’m so young, yet feel so old. I have the rest of my life to work.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my major, but my major requires me settling down, and I’m not sure I’m ready. I’m not sure I’m done living. There is so much I haven’t seen or I haven’t gotten to experience. Is it wrong that I want to live, truly live? No, I don’t think so. The other part of me wants to make more money and start living the dream I’ve worked so hard for. I paid four years of college for this, so why not use it? My parents normally support me in all my decisions, but they're favoring one in this case. But it isn’t their decision. It’s my life after college and it always has been my life.
The scary part is just not knowing which path I will be taking. Where will that path be? A different city, state, country? The biggest question I wonder about is who will be along side of me on the way? I’ve come to the conclusion that it's OK to not know right now. It's OK to worry and to be scared. I just can’t let that stop me from living right now. You see, we have many moments like this in our lives. High school graduation feelings were very similar to this when deciding on a college to go to. Life goes on though, with or without you.
Usually everything starts to fall into place, maybe not how you imagined it but, as cheesy as it sounds, like it's supposed to. So yeah, you may be in the same spot as me right now, but weigh your options, ask for advice from people you trust that have your best interest in mind, get your mind off of it and then come back to it. Whatever happens though, you’ll be great. Only you can decide what your future holds, and I know it's scary and there are so many options. I get it, I truly do.
For me, after graduating high school the only option was college. It was so ingrained in my head through friends and family that you graduate high school then go to college that there was nothing to be decided, besides where to go. Now it really is out in the open. So as you go into your senior year like me, take a step back and stop worrying for a little while, and enjoy your last year. Wherever your head goes after that, that’s where your heart is, so be all there.
