Cherish your high school years.

An Open Letter To My Younger Brother

To My Younger Brother,

I hope you're having a blast in high school but I have a couple things to say. I know sometimes high school seems like a pain and you just want to get out and get to college, but don't wish it away too quickly. Enjoy your high school years because they really are some of the best. Here are a couple things that you will miss in college, so make sure to cherish them in high school.

First of all you're going to miss the town you grew up in while you were in high school. Once you get to your senior year you can drive down each street of your town and have a story to go with it. You know where the best parks and volleyball courts are. You will miss certain restaurants that you and your friends always go to. You will miss that one manager at McDonalds that gives you free food. You know where the best place is to get a coffee (Dunn Brothers or Caribou.) Another thing you will definitely know is the speed limit on each road. You also will know that Holiday has free coffee Tuesdays that you would never miss for the world. You know that Super America sells Icees and Holiday sells Slushies (yes there is a difference.) The town you grow up in while you are in high school will probably be the most sentimental town you will ever live in. I know that you are just like me and will make sure to make it your stomping grounds and use it in all different ways.

Second of all you will miss your high school friends more and more every day. These people that you spend every hour of your day with making memories around the town are the people that you will miss the most. They understand your humor and you sort of have your own language with them. They know all your secrets and are always on your side. Sometimes in college you just wish you were back with your high school friends because they know the real you best out of anyone in the world. Your high school friends feel like home and trust me sometimes that all you wish you had.

Surprisingly, you will miss your teachers. In high school classes with at most 35 students in a class, you definitely make good relationships with your teachers. You will miss the teachers that pick on you and joke around with you, even the ones that call you out for sleeping in class. You will miss how much they genuinely care about you. Especially the ones that ask you to stay after class just to ask if you're doing okay. In college you don't really have that attention of a teacher in a 300 person lecture.

Lastly, you will miss your family. Your mom and dad have been supporting you through your whole life and what happens when you go away to college and don't see them for weeks? Well I will tell you. You will start missing the routine that goes on when you come home from school. You know what I mean the "How was your day, what did you learn today" conversation. You will start to miss the breakfast they would make you in the morning and the frozen pizza they would make at night. You will even miss the annoying knock on your bedroom door from your parents saying "come out of your black hole and hangout with me, want to watch a movie?" You will miss the way your mom talks to your pets in the baby voice. Oh my gosh and you will maybe miss your pets more than your parents. Think about it, you have lived with your pets for your whole life and suddenly you have nothing. In college seeing a dog and getting to pet it is no doubt the highlight of your day. Its even something you share with your friends. Its a weird college thing that everyone pretty much understands. Dog= Day maker. Lastly you will miss your dad trying to talk to you about politics or random cool things that he just ordered off of amazon. Leaving your family is the hardest part of college, no matter what they were always there for you and now you barley get to see them.

Being in college makes you realize a lot of things that we took for granted in high school. Make sure you make the most out of your high school years and cherish every moment because before you know it, it will be gone. Being your older sister means the world to me and all I want is the best for you. Keep doin' you bro, miss you and love you so much.

Love,

Your Older Sister

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
