When it is time to move to a new chapter in life, it's important to make some new friends to be a part of that. College is the perfect place to start over, and also to make some amazing new friends.
Move in day comes along, and you're beyond excited to live in a new place and to get out there and make new friends. In the first day of classes, you go and sit by some strangers and become acquainted with them. You go to different groups, sports, or clubs and meet people extremely similar to you and your lifestyle. After a few days of small talk with the people you've met, you notice that someone sticks out to you, and you begin to open up with them more about your life. Eventually you two end up hanging out all the time, going to the café for food, or jamming to your favorite songs in the car on the way to the mall.
You don't even notice it, but you just made a best friend. After about 2 weeks of classes, you guys already made so many memories and inside jokes that it's almost unbelievable you met someone just like you. When you're struggling with homework, life, or anything, they come straight over to your room because your dorms are walking distance. Neither of you question anything when it comes to your friendship, because it is the closest you've ever felt to someone.
Having a best friend in college is in a few ways better then at home. Chances are you met them from similar interests, which connects you guys even more. Back home it was easy to make friends from school, but now at college, most of the things you do or take are based off of your interests. Along with that, you two are within 5 minutes of each other by walking, so you are constantly able to see each other whenever you want to. It's great having that person who is so close, because they see you every day, whether it is a good or bad day. Since it's college, you're both here by choosing to go, so you both motivate each other to do all of your work.
My best friend at CMU was the first person I met (other than my roommate or people in my dorm), and she has influenced me in more ways than other friends back home have. She is there through the worst nights of college involving panic attacks, also is there to go to parties with me, or even just to hangout and watch funny videos in my room. Being around someone almost every day in college isn't bad, because you really need someone to ground you when you aren't living with family anymore. You need a comfort zone, and that's what my first friend here is to me. I wouldn't change my first friend at college for the world, because she was here every step of the way in the beginning of my new chapter.
