I never knew such a little person could have such a big impact on someone’s life. You were born four years ago, and it is hard to believe. Time is flying by and I wish it would slow down.
I will be honest, when you were first born, I wasn’t very happy. Little did I know; how much you would show me.
I never knew I had that much love in my heart.
When I first met you with your little pale face and nose that matched rest of the family, I did not know how to react. But after holding you for the first time, I knew you had stolen my heart, co man. I know I am just your aunt, but that is the best part.
I promise to always be there for you.
When you need a shoulder to cry on, I will be there. When you need someone to listen, I will do so with open ears. And when your mom is yelling at you about cleaning your room or bad grades, I will be there to remind her she wasn’t worried about that stuff either when she was your age.
I promise to spoil you with all the ice cream and toys in the world.
I promise to be your number 2 fan (right behind your mom, of course) supporting you at all your soccer, baseball, football, and basketball games. Lastly, I promise that I will always believe in you even when you don’t believe in yourself.
With all this being said, you have to promise me that you will stay as little as long as you can. Still believing that girls have cooties and that every little problem is solved by a kiss from mom.
Promise me that you will never get too old were our family embarrasses you in front of your friends. And that you always want to give me “a great big hug” when I get home from school for the weekend.
I dread the day the family gets pictures of you starting kindergarten. Or when you lose all the teeth in your head. And when you get your license and start driving yourself around. And even when you graduate from high school.
Although we will all be proud of you, you will not be our little boy anymore.
So with that, slow down. Stay as little as possible and don’t rush growing up too fast. You are loved by so many, sweet boy.
