To My Littles,
Coming into my first year at Sweet Briar, I had an amazing big. I couldn't wait to become a junior so that I could have a little and experience Sweet Briar alongside someone who I knew would be in my life forever. Well... my junior year came along and I signed up for quadruplets.
Regardless of how many of you there are, each of you have a special place in my heart. You are my future bridesmaids, my study partners, the girls I cheer on from the sidelines like a proud soccer mom, and the women I will always be there for through hell and high water. Knowing you all has changed me, and has taught me more about how to be a good friend than I could ever have learned without you.
I want to share some more lasting advice with you.
Make the most of your time here. I know it seems that time is dragging on, but I promise you it'll be no time before you all are sharing with your littles the important parts of your journey. Join a club, dance in one of the dance concerts, put yourself out there in the community in ways you never thought you could.
Make yourself feel uncomfortable sometimes. The most growth happens when you are uncomfortable. If you skate through life never challenging your opinions or doing something out of character, have you ever truly lived? Please have the bravery to step outside of your comfort zone, and know that I will be there as a safety net for you.
Put down the books sometimes and really live. Go to that party. Watch a season of your favorite TV show on Netflix. Go for a walk. Take in the campus. Go out there and live. I know that school seems like it is the most important thing, and it is important, but YOU, my little one, are the most important thing. Remember to balance yourself.
Don't be afraid to let college change you. I know a lot of people remark negatively as to how college can change an individual, but please let it happen. If it's for good of course, please don't get a criminal record because of a deviant streak -- that's not the kind of change I mean. Let college make you the kind of woman you want to be, and that I know you all are deep down -- strong, independent, headstrong, and ready to take on the world.
And my final piece of advice is to never lose touch. You are my little, and you always will be. Even when I have graduated and moved past the Briar, remember that I am always a message away. I'm sorry, but there's no getting rid of me now. (I know you didn't ask for this)
I love you. And in Sweet Briar tradition...
Here's to my little one, holla holla holla, nothing that you cannot do
Here's to my little one, holla holla holla, nothing that you cannot do
Work for the good and work for the right, always doing something and doing it right.
So here's to my little one, holla holla holla, nothing that you cannot do.
I hope I can be by your side every step of the way, to "holla holla" you when you show the world how amazing you are, and to pick you up when you can't see the amazing in yourself. Remember the words of the "holla holla" chant and know that there is nothing in this world that you cannot do. I know there is nothing in this world I can't do, especially with you all by my side.
With love,
Your big
