A letter to all of the young parents
I either went to high school with you or met you in college and I'd like to say you amaze me. I'm 20 years old, I work part time, go to school and I can barley take care of myself. While you are running around to doctors appointments, changing dirty diapers at midnight and constantly changing your shirt because your baby spit up on you, I am over here whining that I have two papers to write. I personally do not know what it is like to have a child and be 20 years old, but I do know how much work it is. I was a toddler assistant and I currently watch two sweet baby boys who always keep me on my toes. I know that I would not be able to handle the stress of having to take care of another human being.
I'm writing this because I am sure it is an emotional rollercoaster. You are strong and this baby was brought into this world for a reason. It can and will get tough but just know that there is always someone out there to help.
The job of being a full time or even part time parent is one of the hardest jobs of all.
First, you don't get paid.
Second, sleep is sometimes impossible.
Third, as many times as you ask your baby what is wrong, they probably won't say "I'm hungry mom, duh." You just have to figure it out on your own.
Fourth, there is definitely no mute button so stock up on Advil.
Fifth, no matter how hard you try the ABCs or BINGO will be stuck in your head.
Sixth, you probably will/ say no so many times that you should get it tattooed on your forehead.
Seventh, your baby comes before you. When you wake up you have a handle of things to do before you can even dress yourself.
Eighth, in the end, it is all worth it when you look at the baby sleeping in your arms, when they take their first steps or when they say "mama" or "dada" for the first time.
From someone who has experience with children and wants to work with children as a profession, I admire you. I believe that you need to be reminded of how strong you are physically and mentally. You have made it this far, and you will continue to succeed as long as you keep a positive mindset.
