Before I start, I need to say that I do not speak for all men. In light of what has happened in the world, including what has happened to friends in the past five to ten years alone, something has to be said. Honestly, this is the best thing I can do right now. Not all men are evil; there are those, like myself, who fight to protect those in need. Like I said, I do not speak for all men, but here is an apology letter because I cannot even begin to imagine what women go through.
Dear women everywhere,
I am sorry. I am sorry that you are in fear of going out in public alone. It is a man's world out there, but I always keep the song "Man's World" in mind. A man's world would be nothing without a women. I constantly hope and pray that we will soon live in an equal world where women and men can both feel comfortable and safe in public because they can actually trust that they are safe.
I know these are just words that you are reading, but do know that I mean every single one of them. We live in a really screwed up society where a man who beats a woman will not get charged and a man who sexually assaults or rapes a girl gets a slap on the wrist; especially when alcohol is involved. It is NOT your fault, women. It is not your fault, and I cannot apologize enough that society makes you feel like it is.
If a man touches a woman without consent, or touches a woman violently, then they are not a real man. Not too long ago, I came across this quote online and, as a Christian, I hold it close to my heart for it keeps me motivated; "A real man never hurts a woman. Be very careful when you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man’s rib, not from his feet to be walked on and not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected and next to the heart to be loved."
It is 2016 and for some stupid reason men have a mindset that they are above women in everything. I was raised by a single mother who took care of two others and because of her, I have become respectable to females and learned to be a gentleman to everyone I meet, no matter who they are or what they look like. Because of college, I do not really believe in man and woman anymore because in reality, it is not just the two anymore. I believe in being a human and treating others like humans. We need to help each other as a species.
Now like I said before, I do not speak for all men. However, I do know that there is a good percentage of men who will back me up and who feel the same. One day, hopefully soon, we can live in harmony so we can help and protect each other. No more fear. No more innocence being forcefully taken. It has to stop.
With much hope,
Dan
