A Letter To The Younger Me

Dear Younger Me,

From the beginning of time, I can always remember you being so optimistic and positive. This was never a bad thing, though. For you always wished to see the brighter side of every story and make the most out of every day. Growing up you had everything at your finger tips. You were gifted with an amazing family and always had wonderful friends around you. In high school, you got impressive grades and were a social butterfly.

Up until this year, I thought you would always remain that way. This year many challenges were thrown your way that made life difficult and hard to understand at times. You were still optimistic and, coincidentally, positive. Your intelligence helped you know that not everyone had the same morals as you. College came fast and so did the situations that would only make you stronger.

Growing up can be a challenge in itself and the process of changing goes along with it. You still believe everything will work out as it should. Yet the fire inside you has slowly burned out. You were unfortunately shown that not everyone is always who they say they are. True colors are brought out and feelings get hurt.

Now you never did anything to deserve this, so why you? Well, younger me, life is unfair sometimes. I have learned this over the past eight months. I have learned that to get what you want, you need to fight for it. You need to put others aside at times and be who you really are. Even though you still are that young, optimistic, and positive teenager you should know that not everyone is in things for the same reason.

College is a time to meet people that will be in your life forever. But choose wisely. Because often times people can turn out to be a letdown. This is something you can not predict or have any control over. But what you do have control over is how you react to unfortunate situations.

By having faith and being the bigger person you will succeed in your life forever. You will be who you want to be and earn the things you work for. Yes, it is still important to put others first at times but remember that your true happiness is what matters most in the end.

So, younger and less experienced me, take these few things and run with them. Make any changes you need to make in order to be happiest, and surround yourself with positive people that mirror your own interests and beliefs. Life is quite the journey, go live it.

Love,

Older and Wiser Me

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
