Because you don't get thanked nearly as much as you should

Thank you. I thank you from the depths of my heart. Thank you for your continual pursuit of bettering your God-given talent. Thank you for the hours you spent working on chords and pitches and harmonies and all the other things I can’t even begin to understand about music. Thank you for not giving up all those times you wanted to. The times when you couldn’t seem to get it right or didn’t think there was enough time in the day to practice as much as you would need.

Thank you for sharing your abilities with us. Thank you for getting up on that stage and giving it your all. Thank you for not letting fear or nerves get in the way. I’m sure there are times when you just really don’t want to. Times when your fear seemed overwhelming. Thanks for getting up there even then. For stepping out of your comfort zone and using the gifts you’ve been given.

Thank you for not singing at us, but worshiping with us. Thank you for worshiping and not performing. For making those precious few minutes not about you, but about our God. You are so gifted and so talented, and it would be so easy to make this all about you, but you don’t. You realize that this ability is only thanks to God, the giver of all good things. You’re an inspiration to us all on how we should humbly steward the talents and abilities we have been given.

Thank you for giving us a space to praise the One who created it all. For choosing songs with lyrics that are filled with the truth of God’s Word. Songs that will stick with us for days, months, and years to come, so that every time we think of them, we will be pointed back to Christ.

Most importantly, thank you for giving us a little glimpse of what eternity in heaven will look like. If only for a moment, a time to humbly sing praises and bring honor to the only One worthy of it.

Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

Revelation 4:8-11

Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.

1 Chronicles 16:23-25

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
