There may not have been a time in which we have crossed paths or a time in the future in which we ever will. When I say those words I promise you, I mean them in the sincerest way. I reach out to you in your darkest hour and a time in which you hold a heavy heart. My heart is with you in your times of sorrow and I feel the pain that your heart so heavily holds during this difficult time. I want to extend to you my condolences and remind you that you are not alone.
I want to remind you that you do not have to hold the weight of the world on your shoulders and fight back the tears anymore. You are not alone. Times like this are when I want to be able to pull you close and give you a hug and be the shoulder you can cry on. I want to be able to comfort you and allow you to express the words that so heavily sit on your mind. Though I may be hundreds or thousands of miles away I wish I could do so much more to help you in your time of need.
There is nothing that you have done that has caused you and your family members to go through such a tragic time. It deepens me to say that we live in a society in which we have to live in fear each and every day. Each and every day we live not knowing what is going to happen next. We walk into a room and immediately we strategically plan in our head what we are to do if something tragic occurs. It sickens me to think of what I will do if someone were to open fire.
I choke up in tears thinking of what I would do and what I would be leaving behind. Each and every day I wake up and pray that today will not be the day - not for me, not for anyone. I pray that there will be a day in which we no longer have to live in fear and no longer have to plan an escape route every time we enter a room. I pray that there is a day in which there are no longer victims and grieving families.
To the police officers that risked and/or lost their lives in the line of duty not only that day but every day, thank you for your service. Not often enough do we stop and take the time to thank those who graciously put the lives of others before their own to make sure that they are safe. Each and every day you make it a priority to make sure that others are able to return home to their loved ones, even if it means that you are not able to. You put what the media portrays you to be behind and make sure that the lives of complete strangers are safe. I applaud you for everything you have done for us and the work that you will do in the future.
In one way or another, each and every one of us has been affected by this tragedy. Even if you have not been directly affected by this tragedy, I want you to take a few things from this. No matter where we are we must always stand by one another. We are one nation, we are here to love and support one another. Each and every day remind your loved ones how much they mean to you and how much you love them. I can’t stress how important this is as you never know what is going to happen when. Lastly, I want you to never forget the lives lost in such a tragic event and to always keep their families in your heart.
