Dear Vets of the United States Military,
Thank you. Though I might not always agree with the reasons behind the wars we fight or the situations we send you into, but I will always be thankful for your service and protection. There are no words, no actions, that I can take to repay you for the sacrifice you and your families made, but I hope that you know you are appreciated for doing some good. Like most kids in America, I was raised saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day in grade school, singing the national anthem at sports games, and learning the Constitution and Declaration of Independence in history. When I was younger, Vet's Day was nothing more than an extra day off school every year; I didn't understand what it was really about, and for that I am truly sorry. I'm also sorry that you aren't celebrated every day of the year, and that even on Vet's day, it seems completely subpar in terms of repaying you for the sacrifice.
We love you. It's a small thing, but I hope that you know on this day and every day how appreciated you are. I hope you know how much your sacrifices mean to me and so many people, and that it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. To say you are a far greater group of men and women than I is an understatement, you far exceed that limits of what most see as our duty to this country, and I'm hoping one day to be able to make a difference for those of you in need of assistance upon your return to citizen life.
You have not only impacted my life through those I know who have served, but you continue to make a difference every day when I hear your stories, see your success, and understand more what it truly means for you as members of the US Military. You've opened my eyes to the kind of change I hope to be able to make in the world, and for that, I also thank you.
To the soldiers, officers, medics, religious figures, pilots, technicians, trainers, and any and all military personnel who have served our nation, who have given their years to protecting all of us. To their families who move around constantly, who spend months parted from loved ones, who write and send packages, who endure it all. This day is for you, to celebrate and remember everything you have done for us and everything you deserve. I hope life is treating you well, I hope you are happy, loved and appreciated every day. And I hope to one day be able to help make a difference for those of you struggling.
To all of you that wear the uniform, thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice for me and for all of us civilians. Happy Veterans Day!
