You're probably anxious every night before you fall asleep knowing you only have a few weeks left in your hometown. I can promise you that was me last year. I knew my summer after senior year of high school had to be the best, because in a couple of months I wouldn't be in the same familiar place. I had millions of emotions running through me. I was nervous. I was happy. I was scared. I was sad. I was excited. I knew it was going to be an adjustment but I was ready. I was ready to start my new life as a freshman but this time "college style." Weeks before I left, I didn't take the time I spent with my family & friends for granted. My family would still be in the same place as for some of my friends but others elsewhere. This would be the last summer all of us would be together as we were used to. A big change was about to happen.
I can't tell you how long it took to pack. I was indecisive over everything — whether to bring my entire closet or not, and those of you who know me real well know I overpack. Shopping for my dorm was so fun because after four years of high school, I had the chance to finally redecorate, develop new pictures & place them in cute picture frames with diamonds. I have a sparkle obsession and if you do not for one second believe me then ask my mom.
I think that was my favorite part about moving and knowing I would finally be in Starkville. As soon as I pulled up to my dorm for the first time, two cars fully packed to the top, I knew I had found home. Basically hogging the whole curb as my stuff was waiting to be taken to my room I knew I had definitely overpacked. The very first day, my roommate and I met two sweet girls unpacking their room in yellow and burlap. Who knew that they would be some of our real good friends today? Change has never been an easy thing for me and this was an adjustment but it was worth it in the end.
So to my incoming freshman, I know you have different emotions right now considering summer is already half way over. For now, go out with your friends, spend as much time with your family as you can because in a few weeks you won't see them, but once you get to the college of your choice, I promise you that if you give it a chance it will be your home away from home.
