Dear High School Seniors,
High school is almost over, and you're probably really excited. Excited to be done with high school, excited to start college, or excited because the summer between high school and college is one of the best. Graduation is exciting, and so is the idea of getting to leave high school for good, but, believe it or not, you're going to miss a lot of things about high school and life at home. It's hard to believe now, because everything is coming down to the wire and every little thing you do can affect your graduation, but when you look back, you're going to realize what fun high school was.
A lot of things about high school truly did suck, like classes starting at 7:30 in the morning, being stuck inside for seven and a half hours a day, having minimal options for different classes, etc., but there's so many things to miss about being a high school student. You're going to miss the workload, the ability to go home at the end of the day, the school-sanctioned events, and so much more. Sure no one wants homework, but you get significantly less work as a high school student. If you're a commuter student, you don't have to worry about not going home at the end of the day, but as an on-campus resident, you get very homesick very fast.
As for the school-sanctioned events, take full advantage of the ones that you have between now and graduation. There are plenty of opportunities and school-sanctioned events in college, but they're just not the same as the events that are offered in high school. If you're thinking, "Oh, these dances and events aren't any fun," realize you won't get anything like it anywhere else but high school; those school-sanctioned events are a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
With a month or so before high school gets out for the summer, and the seniors graduate, make the most of the time you have left. Go to prom, go to any sporting events left for the season. Get to know someone new, or get to know that teacher whose class you really enjoy. Enjoy the homework assignments you get, or the lack thereof really. Enjoy the bus ride or drive home every day after school. Spend time with your friends, spend time with your family. Appreciate and enjoy high school and everything it offers now, because once you graduate, you'll never get another experience like it. Make the most of it.
Sincerely,
A College Sophomore Who's Missing High School
P.S. You may not believe me now, but a year or two down the line, you really will miss everything high school offered.
