A Letter To The Girl Who Hates High School

It's perfectly ok if you can't stand high school.

To the girl who hates high school,

It gets way better.

High school is a time to make good grades to get you in to the college you want to go to. Its a time to get a good GPA to get scholarships for college. High school is not supposed to be "the time of your life" or "the best four years of your life".

In high school you don't need to worry about who your friends are. Yes have good friends and be a good friend to them but don't worry about your popularity. You don't need to worry about what parties you go to. You don't need to worry about the kind of car you drive. You don't need to worry about the clothes you wear.

You most definitely don't need worry about that boy that texts you and no telling how many other girls at the same time. You don't need to worry about that boy who said he loved you but broke your heart a week later. You especially don't need to worry about that "best friend" who spread that nasty rumor around the whole school about you. She is just as toxic as the afore mentioned boy.

Instead, focus on making good grades. Focus on doing high school things like, football games, homecoming week, formals, prom, basketball games, or anything you want to get involved in with your school. Focus on following your dreams and getting into a college or university you have dreamt about for years.

Life after high school is way better.

You may dread waking up every morning and going to a place where people dictate what you wear, when you can go to the bathroom, when you can eat, etc. Don't stress those things. Just look forward at what is next: college.

College is definitely something to look forward to. You have the freedom to do what you want when you want. You may meet your best friend for life in college. You may meet the love of your life in college (that's not for everyone though). Better yet you may even discover your purpose in college. You may decide that your dream job is in fact not your dream anymore. You may realize that after all these years you hate dressing up for class but you just did it for the past four years to impress someone who couldn't care less. You may find out so many things about yourself that you had no idea about.

So just be patient.

Grit your teeth and push through high school. Make the most of what you can because you can't get those four years back. Make the grades you need to. Make it to college with high ambitions. Have an open mind.

You can get through it. You will get through it. Don't give up because greater things are coming. Look forward to that.

Sincerely,

The girl who also hated high school but loves college.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
