On the morning of June 11th, 2016, singer and YouTube star Christina Grimmie was shot after giving a concert in Orlando, Florida. She died from her injuries in the hospital just a few hours later. The former “The Voice” contestant was just 22 years old and had previously opened for other celebrities such as Selena Gomez. As of now the police have identified the shooter and found that he acted alone in this premeditated act. It is truly a tragedy when a young life is taken in such an unexpected, tragic way. What’s more is that it shows the state of the world we live in where people feel the freedom to carry out such evil acts. These events reveal just how ruthless and untrustworthy our citizens can be. It is astounding how one can simply decide to take an innocent life for their own personal reasons. The man who shot Christina is truly a coward, so much so that he even took his own life after the incident. Personally, I will never forget the impact this young star had on me as I discovered her on YouTube years ago. I continue to pray for her family and loved ones.
To the Family of Christina Grimmie,
I am truly sorry and heartbroken for the loss of your beloved sister and daughter, Christina. The first time I ever heard her sing, I knew she had a gift. It is unfortunate how such a dear, talented, kind-hearted human being could have their life taken away in an instant. I can only imagine how you must feel as is it not fair that your daughter and sister’s life ended this way. Christina was a light, she had a wonderful gift and used her talent to reach the hearts of many. She gave many fans hope and support and I am confident they did the same for her. Christina was so loved.
To the Brother of Christina Grimmie,
I commend you for the bravery you showed in defending your sister from the man who caused this tragedy. You loved your sister dearly and did the best that you could to save her. You put your life on the line and did the most noble thing a brother could do. My biggest hope for you is that you will not blame yourself for this loss, there was nothing you could do. I do not know why God allows these events to happen but what I do know is that you will grieve for a long time. You will grieve because you loved her dearly. From what I have known, your sister was a believer. I would say to you that I am confident that your sister is home, in the arms of the Lord. Yes, it hurts, I can imagine what it must be like as I have my own siblings whom I would be devastated to lose. I am praying for you. It will take time and it will hurt, but I am praying for you.
To the Parents of Christina Grimmie,
Probably the worst pain in the world is the pain felt by parents who lose a child. My heart is broken for you during this time and what has happened to your daughter was truly unjust. The man who took Christina’s life is a coward and he should be here facing the consequences for his actions. Still, in taking his own life he has passed up his opportunity for forgiveness which only you could have granted him. He took his life because he could not live with what he had done. He could not face the people who he impacted with this crime. I am praying that you will find peace amidst this tragedy. Your daughter was an amazing young woman who did what she loved up until the end. She impacted people through her music and never failed to remain humble. For 22 years, you were blessed to have been with her on this earth and now, she is home. Just as I said to your son, she is with Christ. I continue to pray for you as you move to find peace, justice, and hope. Christina’s story and music will live on and I am grateful for her talent and impact. She was a remarkable girl who was loved by many. Again, please know that I am praying for you all.
Much love,
Ashley Callahan
