Dear Future Self-
Hi, hope you're doing well. I'm writing to you at the (almost) end of my first semester at the University of Iowa. I am finally on my long awaited Thanksgiving Break, and Jordan is snoring softly a foot away. I just wanted to write you a letter to look back on when you're graduating, and I hope we can accomplish some of these goals.
1. I hope you found a group of friends to love you forever.
We've gone through some rough patches recently. Transitioning to college was really hard and trying to find people you can see as your bridesmaid your first semester didn't go so well. I hope we find our people, though, and that all of this was worth it for those lifelong friends.
2. I hope you get a leadership position in DG and make it as good as it can be.
Trying to understand everything happening in DG the first few weeks was nearly impossible, but that's okay. However, I hope you're able to get as much out of it as possible. I hope you've been able to hold multiple positions, and you've really learned how to be a leader. And I hope you had a lot of fun along the way with your sisters.
3. I hope you found a major that fits us and will make you happy for the rest of your life.
Going in to college without a major in mind was a good and bad idea. I hope, however, that you found out what makes you happy and will continue to make you happy forever. Journalism is what I'm leaning towards now, but if you change your mind that's cool, too. Just find something good.
4. I hope you make so many memories and have the time of your life.
It's hard to find out what is good for you and what you want to do when everyone is telling you what's cool and what's not but I hope you get past that. I hope you're able to find your 'people' that are with you on your best and worst days and make the most incredible memories with them. Whether it's game nights, or concerts, or anything in between, I hope you can make memories you remember for the rest of your life. Take lots of pictures too, you can never have too many of those.
5. I hope you're truly happy
The one thing that everyone asks for in life is happiness, and that's what I hope for you too. The best people surrounding you, being in a major you adore, and having fun can only account for so much happiness. I hope you're able to fall in love with yourself and true happiness is something that you're able to find.
Overall, I hope the good times outweigh the bad, and you're able to find happiness, friends, and good fortune along the way.
