A Letter To My Roommate

Whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.

A Letter To My Roommate
Andrea Bowers

Dearest roommate,

First of all, I want you to know that you’re so much more than my roommate. You’re my best friend.

I enjoy all of our adventures and I look forward to all of the adventures we will have in the future. These are the times I know we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.

Thank you for putting up with me when I’m moody and cranky. Thank you for giving me the best advice I could ever ask for. Thank you for not being afraid to tell me what you really think about something. Thank you for being the sister I never had.

Also, thank you for treating my family like your own. It means the world to me and to them.

We’ve been through so much together. Everything from being upset because we thought we didn’t do well on a test to being up until 2 am dying my hair. It’s the little things that mean the most.

Sometimes I think about how my life would be different if I had gone to another college or I had never met you. I can’t imagine my life without you, and I sure don’t like to think about it. Life would be boring without you.

I’ve only known you for a year, but I feel like I’ve known you for a lifetime. We’ve told each other so much that I forget I wasn’t there for some of the major events of your life.

Thank you for always believing in me. We know we won’t do well on our tests if we don’t tell each other how much we believe in each other beforehand. Your confidence in me pushes me on.

You always know just what I need to hear. You know how to cheer me up. You know just when to send me that funny picture you found online. Even when you aren’t with me, it’s like you have a sensor that tells you when I could use a pick-me-up.

You’re just like me, and that’s pretty uncommon. I have never met someone more like me than you. It’s scary and crazy, but it’s also pretty cool. I mean, how many people can honestly say that they say things at the exact same time as their roommate? Same words, same tone, all in sync.

I’m so lucky to have met you. Like I said, without you, life would be boring. Who else would push me to study but not push me to my limit? Who else would watch movies with me at midnight because we can’t sleep? Who else would I do EVERYTHING with? More importantly, who would be there for me, regardless of the time, issue, or place, when I needed them most?

In the time we’ve known each other, life has been crazy and messy. It’s been spontaneous and wild. It’s been fun and beautiful. There’s no one else I’d rather do college with.

So, here’s to all the late nights when we laugh and talk all night, all the evil plots we never go through with, all the secrets we’ve shared, and all the things we’ll do in the future.

Love,

Your Roommate

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
