Dear Lil Bro,
It seems like just yesterday I was calling mom to tell the doctor that I no longer wanted a baby sister but a baby brother. Sixteen years later, my not-so-little brother now towers over me.
Being six years apart never really made a difference. From day one, you were my best friend but also my annoying pest that wouldn’t leave me alone. Throughout the years, we got each other in trouble, you always got the, “Stop annoying your sister,” as I got the, “You know better,” lecture. Even though we got in constant little fights, at the end of the day, you were the one that got me the most.
Even when our world seem to be changing when mom and dad got a divorce, you were the stronger one when I should’ve been. If I needed a shoulder to cry on or a joke to make me smile I could always count on you. You stepped up and took care of me and mom. Though you may have not understood everything, I don’t think I would’ve been able to deal with that without you.
Now some advice from your big sis. Be nice to mom and dad. I went through that teenage high schooler age. Yes, they may get on your nerves in reminding you to study or do this littlest of things but know they’re just looking out for you. Keep mom smiling and help around the house. Do stuff with dad even if that’s having lunch or looking at cars. We grow up quick and those little moments I know they cherish. High School may suck and friends may be stupid but know that taking those extra AP course and ditching those not so great friends will set you out for better things in life. High school is supposed to be a time where you find yourself and what you want to do in the future, so stop complaining, Mr. Grumpy.
It’s crazy to think that you’re no my little baby brother that couldn’t pronounce my name, so instead it was “Cece." You make me feel old… but honestly, proud, every day. From entering high school to now getting your driver's license, I have to realize that you’re not so “little” anymore as you reach new milestones in life and I’m grateful to be a part of them.
I will never stop being thankful to have you in my life. So, thank you for being there, for making me smile when times were rough, for taking goofy pictures with me, for making me laugh at the most random things. Thanks for playing video games and watching stupid movies with me. Thanks for being an annoying but caring little brother. Thanks for dealing with me during every one of my breakdown and listening to me rant. Thanks for coming me for advice and our deep conversations.
Thanks for being you Lil Bro. I don’t know what I’d do without you.
Love,
Big Sis
