A Letter To My Soon-To-Be Little

I don't think I can contain my excitement any longer.

A Letter To My Soon-To-Be Little

Dear soon-to-be "Little,"

After months of planning gifts and getting to know you, I am so happy to say that you'll officially be mine soon! I have spent hours planning the perfect little basket that is tailored just for you. I feel like I am dying of anticipation for the reveal. Needless to say, I am very excited about you!

But I do have a confession to make to you — to be completely honest, I was not sure if I was going to be excited about becoming a “Big" to someone. I really enjoy being a “Little” and the relationship that has grown and blossomed between my “Big” and me. I didn’t know if I would be ready to give up my status as a "Little" myself and if I would be ready to have my own. But like a good "Big" sister, over the summer I did start preparing for the day when I would have a "Little" of my own. By the time recruitment came around this fall, I was excited and nervous about which one of these future girls might be the one who would become my “Little.”

Now with "Big-Little" reveals just around the corner, I am finding it hard to contain my excitement over the fact that you and I will be building our very own relationship. Right from the beginning I felt an immediate kindred spirit with you when we met, and I had hoped from early on that you might be the girl to become my “Little.” We have gotten to know each other so well, and I wouldn't trade our heart-to-hearts for anything else. I also hope that you will be just as excited about me as your soon-to-be “Big."

The past few weeks have been hectic. I have been preparing for your arrival by crafting and getting all of your favorite things. I have scrutinized every t-shirt, canvas, lettered bag, and item that I have collected to make sure that it will be perfect for you. I have spent hours just thinking about what hints I will give to you about who I am, and what special little gifts you might enjoy. With every craft and every purchase, I become even more excited about the reveal.

As excited as I am about the reveal and the anxiousness I feel about what your reaction will be to me as your “Big” and all of the gifts that await you, I am even more excited and anxious about what lies ahead of us. I cannot wait for us to grow in our friendship. I promise you I will do my very best to be a good “Big” to you and be there as a sister, friend, cheerleader, shoulder to cry on, ear to vent to — whatever you need. I hope that I can become a good example of what a “Big” should be and that you will be just as excited when you become a “Big.”

The count down has begun to “Big-Little Reveals,” so hang on “Little,” because as much fun as you have had going through the last couple months — the best is yet to come!

Welcome to Our Family!

Love, Your “Big”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
