An Open Letter To My Roommate
Megan Schafer

Everyone has that one roommate that becomes like a best friend, a sister/brother, and a counselor. Some people do not meet that person 'til their very last year at college or even until they graduate. This person is a big part of your life and will forever be there no matter what comes your way.

Dear Roommate,

First of all, I want to say thank you. Thank you for putting up with me every day. Thank you for not giving up on me when I wanted to give up. Thank you for being my therapist, my sister, my personal stylist, and best of all, being my best friend. I would really be nowhere without you.

We met while on a trip to Philadelphia with a group in our freshman year of college. I still remember that day we became close. We drew top hats over every person on the drawings each group drew. We thought we were so funny. We walked around the art museum, going through every exhibit. We were assigning different things which would be ours at one point.

We then slowly stopped talking due to busy schedules. After winter break ended, I moved in with a close friend and into the same building where you lived. We then connected again, becoming as close as we were before, like we never lost contact. Eventually, it was time to pick roommates for the next semester. I was hoping we would room together, and that wish came true.

The summer had many adventures, like our trip down to Orange Beach, Alabama. We spent a week together before school started. We went kayaking and enjoyed the company of the sun and each other.

You are always there to tell me when I am doing something stupid, whether it's to stop watching Netflix and actually do my homework, or to stop dressing like a hobo and actually put on some real clothes. You are there to tell me when to stop eating, or when we need to have Chinese. You are also there to tell me to do my laundry and when I should go to class. I cannot wait for the rest of this year and the rest of the years to come.

We are so similar, but yet we are so different. I will need you to help make the better choices and not be so stupid sometimes. You get me like no one else does. You know that I get moody sometimes and tend to get stressed easily, but yet you still stay by me. I am forever grateful to you.

You are the Morgan to my Reid (yes, Ash, I'm stealing this cause I like it.), the Christina to my Meredith, the Rory to my Lorelei, the Booth to my Brennen, and the Doctor to my Clara.

Soon we will be juniors and studying abroad in Australia. We have more adventures to come and I am so excited that we can spend them together.

I love you and thank you for everything,

—Your roommate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
