A Letter To My Older (Forever) Friend

For The Older Sibling I always Wanted, But Never Had--Until Now

A Letter To My Older (Forever) Friend
Gina Petruzzi

Dear Older Friend,

I don't know how to say how much of an impact you have had on my life. You have paved the way for who I want to be. I look up to you in more than one respect. Everyone needs someone who is going to have a positive impact on their life. You have been the older sibling I never had, but always wanted. I know we don't talk as much as we used to, but I think of you constantly.

You have moved on from college to bigger and better things. You still constantly keep me in mind and that keeps me sane. You have always thought of me. When I was about to go on the most amazing, but most nerve-wracking journey of my life, you thought of me. This eased my mind and helped me be successful. You always encourage me to reach for bigger things. Whenever I am having a bad day, need someone to talk to, or just need a laugh, I know I can call or text you and you will be there for me. Having you around has given me peace of mind.

Thank you for all of the times that you have been there. You really have been the older sibling I didn't have, but always wanted. Being the oldest is not always easy. Sometimes you just need an older sibling and I always wished I had one. Don't get me wrong; I love being the older sibling for my brother and sister, but I always wanted to know what it would feel like to have an older sibling myself. So thank you for being that person for me. Thanks for listening to all of my problems, and almost always having a solution or at least knowing what to say. I cannot say thank you enough because it does not even begin to cover how thankful I am.

I am so happy that you walked into my life one day your senior year of college. Some of my fondest memories of school include you. You never once excluded me or brushed me off because I was your younger friend. I was always included and you never made me feel bad for being younger than you. It takes a special kind of person to be such a good friend. You were and still are one of the best.

You accepted me for me. You took on my stubbornness. You were my shoulder to lean on. And most importantly one of my best friends. When I thought I couldn't keep going, you pushed me to keep going. Thank you for talking the nonsense out of me (most times). Thank you for pushing me to be the best me. Thank you for caring about both the big and little things in life. Mostly, thank you for being you and being the friend I most definitely needed in my life.

I always talk about how much of a mentor you were to me. Professors always ask me how you are doing. Although we don't talk much anymore since we are both incredibly busy individuals, I know you are doing well. You have such a positive attitude and were just always reaching for the stars that I know that wherever you go, and whatever you do, you are doing alright!

There are just a few things I want you to know. I admire your bravery. Whatever life throws at you, you face it with incredible courage and that is something i hope to do one day. I love the fact that you put your whole heart into whatever you do. Whether it is giving me advice, or just being a friend, you always do it with all your heart. Finally, I love that you are my forever friend.

If I could sum it up in two words, it would have to be thank you. Because of you I will always have a role model, I will always have a person, and I will forever have a friend.

Love,

Your younger friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
