To my niece and nephew,

Hi guys, you probably won't read this until you're much older. You guys are only toddlers and reading is something that won't come your way for a while. I wanted to write this letter to tell you a few things I've learned throughout my life so far. Thank you for being such an amazing influence in my life, you two make me so happy. Here's a list of things I think that will help you in the future

1.) Life is tough but so are you. I know life is going to throw crazy things at you, between school and just life in general. I wanted to let you know how strong you are. You are stronger than whatever is trying to take you down. Keep your head up high, and go for it.

2.) Don't be afraid to try new things. Growing up, I was always terrified of new things. Don't be scared to try something because of what other people may think. Just go for it. In the end, you regret the chances you don't take. And if it doesn't work? Try something else, and keep going.

3.) Find the good in people. This is something many people don't do but it's something I always try to do and something you guys should do. Don't automatically assume things about people you don't know; try to get to know them first, and try to find the best person they can be. There's always something good in a person.

4.) Enjoy the simple things. Stop for a few moments and forget about the big picture. Embrace the simple things. Embrace that the sun is shining or that you are wearing a new shirt. Anything. Don't make things too complicated for yourself all the time. Keep it simple sometimes.

5.) Admit when you're wrong. I know this one is probably going to be hard, but it really does make a difference. If you admit you're wrong, you accept your flaws, and that's something many people cannot do.

6.) Smile. Simple, right? Just smile. It'll improve your mood and you'll look even cuter doing it.

7.) It's okay not to be okay. You don't need to pretend you're okay when you aren't. You are allowed to have bad days, you are human and you are entitled to them.

8.) Laugh more. Laughter is really the best medicine. Laugh at yourself if you have to, it's okay. Laughter makes you happier.

9.) Believe in yourself. You are capable of great things; you are capable of so much. You just need to believe in yourself. Believe in other people. Believe that you are able to do it. If you believe in yourself, you can accomplishment anything.

10.) You're going to make mistakes. It's going to happen. You need to realize it's going to be okay. You can make as many mistakes as you want; you just need to learn from them.

I hope this list helps you. I truly love being your aunt. I can't wait until you are older and able to read this. You two are capable of so much; I can't wait to see what the future holds for you two. Thank you for being you. You make me want to be a better person. I love you guys with all my heart. I'm so proud to be your aunt.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
