Hey there, how’s it going?
It's you, but older and just somewhat wiser. I know you think this pre-algebra homework and two paragraph English assignment is taking time away from the valuable time editing your Myspace layout or checking on your AIM buddies away messages, but let me tell you some things that are more important than that. At the time you’re reading this, you are probably sitting in your room, on your computer being disengaged from your family.
Do yourself a favor, sign off and go spend time with your parents. In two years, you’ll be in high school with the worry of nothing but trying to please the people around you and how the hell you are going to pass your drivers test (you’ll get it on the third time, trust me.) But until then, spend time with your mom and dad. Call your sister and check up on her and let her know you miss her and how proud you are of her. Call your grandparents and make sure they are okay and if they need you to come help around the house.
Let your mom tell you about the time you wrecked your bike and ran into that woman and you flipped over her and ask your dad about how it was working in the coal mines and let him tell you some of his stories. Also, if you can, pry it out of him how he got his nickname because I never tried hard enough to figure it out and its one of my biggest regrets in life. Ask your mom about the job she just got. You’ll want to, that woman in the wheelchair with the brightest personality in the state will soon become a large and important part of your life.
Don’t be scared of her and don’t ever, and I mean ever, let anyone make fun of someone with a disability. Don’t worry about what people say about you. They do not matter and I promise you’ll do way bigger things than any of them will ever accomplish. If you’re worried about something, and I’m sure you are, because you worry about literally everything. Just a fun fact, that doesn’t end as you grow up. Worrying and anxiety is something that will cause you major problems while you’re in college, but you’ll overcome it.
You and your sister may not be too close right now, but that will change. You’ll go from hardly ever seeing her to living 30 minutes from her house and meeting for lunch at least once a week. Becoming a uncle and older brother will change your life. You’ll become both of those things even if you don't think thats possible right now.
Your parents will start adopting and it will flip your world upside down, but all for the better. Actually, it will help you decide what career you ultimately want to pursue. Don’t think about that right now, however.
Right now, focus on running off the bus when it arrives at your house so you can catch TRL.
Sincerely,
You’re older self
