What My Future Little Should Know

You don’t know me yet, but I already love you so much.

Dear future little,

I know recruitment hasn’t started and we probably haven’t met yet, but I’m so excited to be your big. You don’t know me yet but I already love you so much.

You might not know yet that you want to go Greek and that’s okay. You have time to decide. You might not know yet what being in a sorority is all about and that’s okay too.

It really doesn’t matter how you feel going into recruitment because come bid day you will have found your home. You’ll have so many sisters waiting to welcome you with open arms, who will love you from the get-go.

Once you get your bid, nothing else will matter. The awkward conversations you had during recruitment will be a thing of the past. The way those heels pinched your toes during pref night will be a minuscule detail. The hard choices you made when ranking which sororities you felt most at home will all be worth it. When you open your bid card and see what sisterhood you’re now apart of, nothing else will matter.

I can’t wait to get to know you. I don’t know if we’ll meet during recruitment, or bid day, or a sisterhood event. We might already know each other.

I want you to know that I'm going to do everything in my power to be the best big for you that I can be. I'm so excited to have a little and I hope you're excited to get a big. I know people put a lot of emphasis on the relationship between big and little but our relationship is ours, not theirs.

Our relationship can be whatever you want it to be. I want to be there for you any way that I can. If that means giving you space to do your own thing that’s okay. If it means being a close friend that you spend lots of time with that’s okay too.

I hope you’ll be just excited to be my little as I am to be your big.

I’ve already started pinning ideas for gifts for your initiation basket and crafting for you. I can't wait to give you all of the canvases I've made.

I can’t wait to share with you all of the reasons that our sisterhood is so special. I’m excited to help you prepare for initiation and help you learn the creed because yes you really do need to know it. I already know I’m going to cry when you get initiated and become a full-fledged sister.

I already love you so much and I can’t wait to show you.

Sincerely,

Your big

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
