A Letter To My Friend Who Lost Her Mom

Things you know, but must remember.

A Letter To My Friend Who Lost Her Mom
Jennifer Fowler

I have watched us grow up together and I could not be happier about the people we have become, especially you. I have seen us in tragedy and happiness together at times but nothing makes it better than having a friend I can openly share anything with, but right now I need you to know something.

The year your mom passed you changed, and I honestly did not know how to handle it. You had lost someone I could not bare or imagine losing, and it is something I would not wish on anyone. You are without a doubt one of the strongest people I have ever met and a role model during a lot of times. It is difficult in certain moments because I often find myself not knowing what to do. Whether to cry with you, hug and hold you, or let you have your space. I see it sometimes when you smile and say, “It’s Okay”, when I know inside you aren’t. You need to know it is okay to cry and let it out sometimes. You will never hear me say, “I understand” or “I feel your pain.” In all honesty, I don’t and I probably never will. I just want you to know I am here for you 24-7-365 whether you like it or not. Now, besides the emotional aspects of this letter I wanted to tell you a few things you have been pretty boss at.

1. You handled high school like a boss. You finished with the status of Cum Laude, and at graduation you walked across the stage in heels like a bad*ss.

2. I know we have only been in college together for only a short time but you have done super. I know you were emotional the first week but whether you know it or not you are doing great, and each day is getting better and better for you!

3. I definitely cannot wait to see how far your tattooing career takes you!

4. Have I mentioned you have done a great job keeping me in check and always remind me of where I come from?

That was just to name a few things. The biggest and greatest accomplishment you definitely need to know and most of all is that your mother is super proud of you. You could have done a million other things but you chose to make a life for yourself and better your own future that no one can take away from you. I want you to know I love you beyond measure or capability. I absolutely cannot wait to see what the future holds for our friendship.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
