A Letter To My Childhood Best Friend As They Graduate

Dear Best Friend,

It's that time of year. We are all excited about the end of school nearing, but for you, it's even more exciting. For you are a high school senior and your moving on. It's the end of a chapter of your life and we couldn't be prouder. No more ABC'c, designated lunch times, no more computer lab days. It's all over. As you get closer to the end, it becomes realer.

I know how excited you are, as I was there last year, but I beg you to hang on to the last few weeks that you have. Take the time you have to spend it with your classmates. Some of them you won't see again for a long time and when you do, it's never the same. Now enough with the lecturing. Instead, I wanted to use the last bit to thank you.

College, while is so incredible, can be scary. It's the first time you are really on your own. So when you get there, take your time and don't be afraid to ask for help. People are willing to help. I can't wait to see all of your adventures. And never forget I'm only a phone call (or plane ride) away.

Thank you for being my home away from home. Thank you for being there for the late night calls and always being there to protect me. Thank you for the memories since we were born. Thank you for it all. Now go kill it at graduation, I'm sorry I couldn't be there. Have an amazing summer and good luck with whatever college you choose to go to.

Thank you for being my best friend. The world is not ready for you and everything you will bring to it. I can't wait to see all you do. Love you always.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
