A Letter to my Cat

I miss her so much

A Letter to my Cat
Paige Goodskey

To my wonderful cat,

You are my rock and my baby. You are here for me whenever I need you. You know when I am sick, you know when I am sad and you know when I just need a little love.

I remember the day we got you. We went to my mom's old coworker's house after her cat had a litter of kittens. We only had one cat and were used to two, so mom said it was okay to find a new cat to call family. When we got to the house and met the kittens, I knew you were the one. I put you in my lap and you meowed at me. That was when I knew I wanted to take you home.

You were the runt of the litter. People do not believe that you are the runt because you are overweight. You were 20 pounds at one point, but that was because you were eating too much food and we are trying to get you down, which has not worked how we have hoped it would. Of course, the vet yells at us for you being at that weight, but we still love you just the way you are.

You are Shortcake, Kitten, KWSM, Kitten Witten Sitten Mitten, Chicken, Chick pea, Chicky poo poo, the Po Po and Shorty Warty Wart Cake. All these names have been come up with by the family, but your favorite is Shortcake. You will always be Shortcake. It is your favorite name, because it is your original. Of course, we couldn't decide on a name to begin with, so that's how you became Kitten, but your name will always and forever be Shortcake.

I remember the day you got stuck in the ceiling of the basement. We had left to go out somewhere, and we heard meowing coming from somewhere. We saw where Boo was, but we could not find you. So, we heard it in the floorboards and went down in the basement and saw that there was a whole in the ceiling. Dad took a ladder, ripped some of the ceiling down, and rescued you since you would not come down.

You poor thing. You were so distraught when I left for college. You had no idea what was going on, and were not yourself. My mom would tell me that you were slumping around the house because I was not around. But, whenever I would call and hear my voice, you would rub your head against the phone and purr and meow because you missed me so much. Finally, when I came home, you would sleep with me the next night because you were happy to see your mommy.

I love you my baby. You may be a pain in the butt, but you are the best thing that has happened to me.

Love,

Your mother.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
