A Letter to my Alpha Psi Gamma Brothers

October 28, 2015, I was initiated into the small, but great fraternity known as Alpha Psi Gamma. Boy can I say it wasn’t easy, but my fellow line brothers and I made it. So, cheers to us, cheers to you and cheers to the many years of brotherhood.

Andrey,

Words cannot even begin to describe just how thankful I am to have a brother like you. You are so determined and goal-driven and you lead our brotherhood well. Going on 5 semesters (starting in the fall) as President of our fraternity is WERK, but you make it work. You do everything humanly possible to keep our small brotherhood alive and that is all any brother could ask for in a leader.

Melissa,

Sister. Oh girl….I miss you. We both went our separate ways from the brotherhood due to many personal life choices that neither of us regret. Our taco boat dates will forever live on in our memories and I hope to one day reunite and bring our legacies into the fam bam.

Madison,

My twin…my other half. You were there for me in one of the most difficult times in my life. You guarded me and guided me when I was lost after all the events. I didn’t know who to go to or where to go, I was empty. You showed me what the true meaning of brotherhood is. You drove to me when I was in need and you stayed until you knew I was okay. You brought me home safely and I cannot thank you enough. I am truly blessed to call you my frat twin because you are like no other. You are truly unique.

Shelbi,

MY BIG. You’re getting married soon. Very soon, in fact. I am so proud of how far you have come since you graduated. We didn’t get to see each other much because you graduated the semester I was initiated, but in that short amount of time, you were the best big I could have asked for. You helped get me out of trouble, you dragged me out of the hole that I was continuously digging deeper into… you were one of my best friends. I miss you and I can’t wait to see you say ‘I do.’

Daniel,

My Argentinian brother. Where should I even BEGIN?! You bring life to every party. Every rehearsal, every concert, every time the brothers went to eat, you gave us LIFE. You were so entertaining, and still to this day being miles away, you manage to bring smiles to our faces. What more of a foreign brother could we ask for, you’re the best!

Bonnie,

When I first joined, I’m not going to lie, you scared me. You still scare me sometimes to this day and you are over a hundred miles away from me. But, I couldn’t thank you enough for continuously pushing us to succeed. Through every class we had, every bad grade, every rehearsal, you were there to help us. Granted, you were also a pretty kick ass stage manager and your drive is what made our productions so flawless.

Dylan,

Dylan Cash Miles. D.C…. my G-Big. BOI! Words cannot stress how honored I am to be your grand little. You are beyond talented and show true passion and love for theatre and Opera. You have inspired me to go to grad school and have helped lead me in the right direction in many recent events of my life. When they told me that I was going to meet you, they said you were crazy. I wasn’t sure what I had signed up for, but what I didn’t know was they meant the best kind of crazy. You push your limits beyond what they were the day before and get closer and closer to where/who you are meant to be every day. Seeing all your posts in regard to your performances and pictures as well bring so much happiness to myself because I know how much you truly love being on that stage.

Founders,

Thank you for creating the best decision I have ever made. For bringing to life a brotherhood of wisdom, passion and drive for music and its future. For not giving up when times got tough and saying forget it, it’s not happening. For creating the one thing that saved me from suicide when I had nothing else to turn to.

Sincerely,

Katie Schmidt

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
