A Letter To My Brother Who Is Too Far Away

I know you secretly miss me too.

A Letter To My Brother Who Is Too Far Away
Rachel Gedosh

Dear Bro,

I’ve never written you a letter before so this is weird. I’m usually not so far away from you either. It’s different. I’m so used to yelling at you for eating all my food and for being a brat. It’s weird to think that you’re not here with me. We’ve never been this far away for this long. I can’t just walk into the next room and see you sitting on your bed pretending that you don’t see me.

I miss you. I miss you telling me I’m dramatic when I say my life is falling apart. I miss you calling me names and telling me boys don’t like me, and I miss you giving me advice on boys because sometimes they actually do like me. I miss laughing about nothing with you. I miss yelling at you to come get a cricket out of my room and then yelling at you for killing it. I miss sneaking out and sitting on the roof with you. I miss you coming in at 2am and waking me up over summer breaks. I honestly just miss how annoying you are.

I know for this last year and a half we didn’t even live together. I was at college and you were still at home, but you were still here with me. I could count on you for anything. Whether it was a ride, a phone call, a mean text, or you to hold the phone while I FaceTime the dogs; you were always there, and now you’re not. I hope whatever you’re doing is worth the distance between us. If it’s not, I’m gonna kick you when you get back. I hope you’re enjoying yourself and keeping busy. I hope you don’t miss me as much as I miss you, but I know you do.

I know our parents miss you too, but it’s different for me. I don’t know life without you and you don’t know life without me. I thought this time would breeze by. Unfortunately, it has decided to drag its feet. Kind of like you in the mornings when I had to drive us both to school. And even though we fight, you’re still the best brother in the world. You do a lot for me and it doesn’t go unnoticed, it’s just hard for me to say thanks. But here it is: thanks for being my rock and constantly bringing me back down to earth.

I love you and can’t wait until we both come home. You’re my best friend and always will be.

Love Always,

Sis

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
