Accepting me for me

No matter how I look, what I’m wearing, or what I’m doing, you always seem to want me there. You know my values, morals, and life goals, and you accept — better yet, help me achieve them. You know what I believe in and the reasons I do what I do, and you never question it. We may have different views on certain things, but that doesn’t get in the way of our friendship.

Celebrating the good times...

Whether it’s a good test grade, acceptance into a graduate school, or just making it through another week, you’re always there to celebrate life’s little victories. No matter the true importance of my successes, and despite what is occurring in your life, you always make sure you let me know you’re proud of me. Thanks for putting off your weekend studies just for a round at the bar, or deciding to study one hour less just to watch a movie with me. You may not know it, but the time you choose to spend with me means a lot.

...and lifting me up during the bad times

Things aren’t always great, and when things do go bad, you’re there. Whether it’s a bad day, discouraging news, or a just an overall crappy moment, you’re there to help power me through. Thanks for always picking me up and reminding me of my true potential and my strength. You’re one of the reasons things are much easier in the face of defeat. Thanks for putting your life on halt, even for a couple minutes, just to make me feel better.

Allowing me to be my true self

It’s not every day that I open up to someone and show them my true self, but you’ve earned the trust to see it. Yeah, there’s the silly, goofy side that you see when we’re getting ready to go out or the side that comes out when I get overly dramatic about something so insignificant. You’ve witnessed me singing in the shower, the dancing around in my towel, and the many silly things I do just to get a laugh. But you’ve been there through breakups, friend drama, and life’s unexpected moments. Times like these you’ve let me open up, break down and put myself first, and that deserves a big thank you.

Being my voice of reason

Thanks for reminding that it’s not a very good reason to text that ex-boyfriend, drink one more drink or say something I’ll regret. Because of you, I am a much happier and smarter person, especially on the weekends. On a serious note, you’re there to weigh pros and cons, help make life-changing decisions, and help to act on the side of caution. Thanks for keeping me grounded, even when I make it so difficult.

Being my ultimate sidekick

Thanks for being there for me and sticking with me through thick and thin. Life throws so many curve balls at us with no warning, and with someone like you by my side, anything and everything seems much less difficult. Life with you by my side makes so much more sense and I can’t imagine it any other way.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
