An Open Letter To My Guy Best Friends

An Open Letter To My Guy Best Friends

Ever since I was a kid, it has been easier for me to become friends with boys than girls. There's just something about being friends with a boy that makes it so special. Maybe it's the fact that they don't give a shit about gossip and there is no drama. Not only is it ten times easier to become friends with a boy, but it's also a lot easier to hold on to the friendship.

Whenever I mention you to anyone, I'm asked if we are dating and I'm told that we would look so cute together, but why do we need to date just because we are friends? It doesn't even make sense. At this point in my life, pretty much all of my friends are boys and I have very few close friends that are girls since I've lost so many girl friendships on the road to get to this point. It sucked losing those friendships but my guy friends stuck with me through everything and always had my back.

I just want to thank you. Thank you for always being there for me. When things got extremely rough, you had the opportunity to leave, but you didn't. You stood by my side and always made sure to show me how much you care about me. Whenever I call you, I can always count on you to answer the phone (sometimes even on the first ring) and talk to me for hours at a time, whether it's an attempt to make me feel better or just talk about our days and listen to me tell you the same story sixteen times in the same phone call.

Thank you for being like my brothers. Every time I am with you, I can expect to go home with some bruise or cut on my body because of your enjoyment with injuring me and watching me suffer. Whether it's stealing my phone and scratching my face (@Ryan), teaming up and mailboxing me (@all of you), or playing ping pong "against me" but actually just aiming the ball at me and hitting really hard (@Max). I can also expect to be made fun of nonstop and be the center of all the jokes. Although you hurt me and make fun of me all the time, I know that you will always be there to protect me if someone else is making fun of me, even when I'm not there to defend myself, or I'm just physically not capable to defend myself, which happens a lot. I can always trust that you will be there to yell at someone that you will leave their shoes at the campgrounds after they stole my hat, or text someone that you will beat them up if they ever try to speak to me again and that just shows how much you're like my brothers. You have the right to do whatever you want to me, but no one else does.

Although you get mad at me sometimes or I get mad at you, I know that it won't be long until one of us is forgiven. Sometimes it doesn't even take a day because I'll be really mad and call everyone else crying and not want to be with you, but you will come right over to me and just sit down next to me no matter how long I refuse, until we make up.

Without all of you, I have no idea of the type of person that would be standing here today. You have shaped me into who I am. Although I am crazy and weird and annoying, you have accepted that fact because you're the same. So Ryan Cahn, Max Fevola, Justen Friedman, and Matthew Casalino, I love you to the moon and back one million times and thank you for being my best friends.

Love,

Your Girl Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
