Dear best friends since birth,
As the Three Musketeers, we rule. No one really understands our relationship or even imagines having their parents as their "best friends." That’s why you guys are titled the "parents" right?
Wrong.
You both are more than parents to me. You guys are my best friends. You know why? Together, we’ve traveled the world. Together, we’ve stuck by each other’s side through thick and thin. Together, we’ve made movie nights a tradition. Together, we walk into a room of strangers as the Three Musketeers.
Together, we rule.
Since day one, I was blessed with an amazing mother and father. You guys watched me grow and were there every step of the way. You guys knew I had (and still have) big dreams. Big dreams that mean a little bird has to leave the nest. As the famous parent-to-child saying goes, “Dream big.” It was hard for you both to tell me that because when your kid "dreams big" that usually means they have to leave the nest.
However, you both want what’s best for me. You both knew going out of state to college was my dream and you both supported me. You made that dream possible, and for that, I can never thank you guys enough.
Thank you for loving me unconditionally. Thank you for being my heroes. Thank you for being my role models. Thank you.
You both taught me the most important values: compassion; love; and patience. You both taught me to give back. You both taught me to love even when love is not given back. You both taught me to be patient and persistent. You both taught me to “take the bull by the horns,” to work hard, to be a leader, and to be strong. To love, to embrace and to be kind. To be brave, to strive and to be courageous.
You both have lived these values and still do. You both know the ugliness and beauty of the world. You both showed me the world. You both knew when to shelter and protect me and when to let go. From the day I started walking to the day I walked the stage on graduation, you both have been there.
Being out of state is hard for the Three Musketeers, but you both always tell me, “We know you are happy, so that makes us happy.” To hear that from you two means the world to me. From all the FaceTimes to the quick visits home, I cherish every moment we spend together. I treasured the time before, but I treasure this time even more. From movie nights to our sushi dates, we rule when we are together; separated and together.
I do miss the nest, but I know the nest will always be there. Home will always be home. Home is whenever I am with my best friends -- my mom and my dad.
So Mom and Dad, thank you. Thank you for not only being the best parents, but my best friends.
Thank you for making me the woman I am today.
Love you,
Gabbie
