A Letter To My Best Friend's Dad

To my best friend's dad;

When I lost my dad, I didn't think I would ever accept another father figure in my life. But when I became a part of the family, you were the first person I felt that I could trust. I've always believed that God put others in our lives for a reason, and I truly believe that he put my best friend in my life so that you would be in my life as well.

I've been so blessed to be a part of your family. It's good to know I have someone to always have my back and to do things for me that my dad would do. So let me thank you for a few things that I don't thank you for enough.

1. Thanks for fixing my car when it needs it. If it weren't for you, my car would have already been to the dump.

2. Thanks for always pushing me to do better at school.

3. Thank you for trusting me with your daughter, because I know she tends to keep herself in trouble. Not with me, though!

4. Thank you for always inviting to me family events and making me feel like part of the family.

Now, there are some things I need to apologize for:

1. Sorry for keeping you up at night with our laughter and shenanigans.

2. Sorry for slamming so hard on my breaks; I know you are getting sick of changing out my brake pads.

3. Sorry for not keeping your daughter out of trouble. I know I'm supposed to, but you know how stubborn she is!

But in all seriousness, thanks for being a dad to me. You have made that hole in my heart just a little smaller, and you make not having my dad around easier. Thanks for always looking out for me.

Thanks for everything, JJ! Love you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
