To my doggie son Luka:
I didn't expect you to go so soon. I knew how sick you were getting but everybody was in complete denial. I remember when the vet called me saying you had cancer, and it was more serious than any of us thought. Stage three lymphoma. I didn't want to believe it, you were normal and so happy running around with big sticks and chasing balls. How could I believe it? Time went on and soon enough cancer was destroying you more and more everyday. You were so strong and fought that cancer like a champ. You weren't going to have that cancer make you any less happy. We all treated you like a king. I treated you to ice cream, Mcdonalds, and basically anything I was eating we shared. You started to become super weak, and it broke our heart. You couldn't even walk up the steps anymore. You tried so hard not to show weakness, but we know you were suffering, and we couldn't have that, we loved you too much. It started getting worse until the day you woke up and couldn't move. You didn't want to eat or go outside which were both very unusual for you. We called the vet again and he said the cancer had probably attacked your liver and kidneys. That same day, was the day you became our angel in heaven.
You were more than a just a pet, you were more than just a dog, you were family to everybody that came in contact with you. Everybody loved you so much and everybody was so upset to hear that you had left us. (Although everybody was happy you were no longer suffering.) The news spread like wildfire, people knew within the day of it happening. You touched the lives of so many people, especially ours (Your owners.... Your mom and dad). I spent as much time as I could with you, Luka. I tried to be the best doggie mom out there, especially as I knew your days were coming to an end. I held you tightly as you went to a better place, and that was the hardest thing i've ever had to do. I loved you so much. Things just aren't the same anymore. I come in the house and when I open the door there isn't a bunch of loud "woof woofs" at me anymore. I go outside and there's not a big "gentle giant" following me. When I go for rides my backseat is now empty. I miss you so much.
As sad as this letter seemed so far, I am very happy you are in a much better place than here. I know you are up there chasing skunks. (Only I hope you're not getting sprayed like you did here!) I know you're up there running with sticks bigger than you can carry in your mouth, and I know you're up there chasing the golf kart around and biting at bonfires. You were so crazy! I hope you're eating all the cheeseburgers you want as well, Luka. I miss you so much. "Dogs leave paw prints on your hearts", and the paw print you left on my heart was huge. I hope you're having a ball up there, watch over us "Lukie Jones" and i'll see you one day my sweet angel. <3
Love,
Your Proud Doggy Mommy
