A Letter to My 20-Year-Old Self

When you were a little girl, you dreamed about the days when you would be an adult, on your own and living the life you wanted, with complete freedom and the loftiest of goals. On your 20th birthday, it is scary to realize that those days are finally here.

Try new things. Say yes more often than no. Don’t be afraid to make a fool of yourself or go against what everyone else is doing. This is your time to be selfish and do whatever you want.

One day, someone will walk into your life and you will be forever changed. It might be hard for you to believe now, but trust me on this one. In the meantime, celebrate your independence and love yourself for who you are. Open yourself up to people. Being vulnerable is scary, but that is how you form lifelong connections. When someone understands you, when you let them in to your world, that is when you truly realize how wonderful life can be.

Stop stressing about the future. It might seem like everyone has their life planned out; in reality, we are all just trying to find our place. Remember to explore all of your interests and find what you are truly passionate about.

Go out on a Tuesday. Yes, school is important, but so is enjoying your college experience. Like Tom Petty once said, “The work never ends, but college does.” So put down the textbooks and enjoy a night out with your friends. Your best college memories should not include studying at the library.

Don’t think too much. Stop letting yourself get lost in your fears and anxieties, and believe that everything will work out the way it is supposed to. Above all, be yourself. Don’t let the world harden your heart. It is a tough place out there, but you are strong enough to overcome any obstacle. I know you can do anything you set your mind to.

Your twenties are going to be some of the best years of your life. You’ll win some, and lose some, but always remember that life goes on. And I know you are going to kill it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
