Dear Sis,
Here is everything I didn't know I wanted to tell you until you turned 13 years old. Being a teenager is rough for girls, there aren't many out there that get it easy. It's going to be hard but I promise I will continuously be there for you every step of the way, because if I was lucky enough to have an older sister, I would have wanted her to be there for me.
First of all, I honestly wish I would have listened when everyone told me not to worry about boys so much. The truth is, they're right, and honestly, a very small percentage of people actually find "the one" in middle school or high school. I am not saying not to like boys, go ahead. But just remember that each time one breaks your heart, it helps you learn who you want to end up with. So learn what you like about boys and what you don't like about them. And whatever you do, don't let any of them see you cry. I once had someone tell me that the right boy isn't worth your tears, that person is right. I don't want you to cry over him, but if you have to, do it in the comfort of one of my hugs. I know sisters say "don't mess with my sister or I will beat you up," well, I won't even give that boy satisfaction, we can just talk endlessly about how screwed up he was for letting you go.
The other day I saw you and a friend going on and on about how you wanted bigger butts. I am going to be upfront with you right now, you're not going to just magically wake up one morning and have your butt be bigger and have a womanly figure. There isn't a perfect girl out there and honestly, I don't think anyone is truly 100% happy with their body. But don't start yet, you have plenty of years to be cynical. All of my life, I have wanted to grow up and now that it is here, I wish I would have enjoyed being younger. Do this for me. You are beautiful, don't rush it. Puberty comes and goes before you know it.
Always believe in yourself. I know that this is such a cheesy thing to say but I really want you to. No one should ever make you feel inferior because if you work hard enough, you can do and be anything you set your mind to. If you want to be a veterinarian do that, or if you want to be the president you can do that too. But no matter what, don't let anyone break you.
You are the most intelligent, beautiful, and funniest person I know. You are the light in my world and if things ever get dark in yours, remember I won't judge you. I am here to help you because that is what sisters are for. I will be here to catch you as you fall, physically and metaphorically. Always remember that I will never give up on you.
I love you.
Love,
Your big Sis
