Dear me in 10 years,
I hope all is going well, considering we are the same person. So we are 28, did you finally get that tattoo that you always wanted? How about the dogs we kept saying we were going to adopt? Are you living it up in England? Did you graduate college and get a job? It's crazy that 10 years have passed so quickly; so much has happened and that so much has changed.
I hope that by 28 we stopped forcing our mother to call the doctor's office for us, as scary as it is. I also hope that by 28 we are not still living with our mother. I hope that between the gap of now and 10 years we finally found the confidence that we lacked at 18. I hope that we stopped letting things pass by because we lacked the courage to put ourselves out there. Also, I hope that we told our TA that we thought he is beautiful because he is.
Future me, please call our friends from college. I know us, and we are not the best at reaching out. These friends who have been there through a lot with us — don't let them slip through our fingers. We need them, as much as we wouldn't like to admit that we need anyone.
As much as I hope things change in the future, I also hope that some things stay the same. I hope that 10 years from now our mom is still our best friend and that our dad is the funniest man that we have ever met. I hope that our brothers are still annoying and secretly love us. I hope that we are still as open-minded as we are now and don't let our views and values block us from understanding those that are around us.
So, me in 10 years, I hope that you are happy with what we have become. Get out and see the world, tell people you love them and, lastly, enjoy every second that life has to offer.
Love,
18-year-old you
