Dear 10-year-old Me,
You just hit double digits and you think you’re the coolest thing that walked on this earth. Good for you. You rock those gaudy highlights mom let you get by that cheap hairdresser, but do yourself a favor, brush your hair once in awhile. You’re a total tomboy and guess what? That’s okay. Because you should never care what people have to think about you. I think that’s the key to happiness in life. There are lots of other important things that you’re going to learn throughout the next decade, but that is a crucial one.
I bet you think life as it is will never end. I know you think that there isn’t anything that is going to hurt you, break you, or ever be hard, but I am sorry to tell you….you’re wrong. I know you think that you will never have your heart broken, but you’re wrong again. I know you think you won’t ever get a boyfriend, but you did.
There are numerous people who will want to hurt you. You will encounter a lot of things that will test you to break, but don’t. Forget what people will think about you and what the consequence will be and make the right decision that will benefit yourself.
Another thing, don’t care so much about what other people are doing. Study more and care less about football games and silly house parties, because the parties in college don’t even compare. Do not care about what that girl is wearing or what she looks like, just wear what you want and look how you want.
Girls are mean, but the most important thing to do is be nice. Do not let her meanness make you mad and force you to feel as if you need to stoop down to that level. Jealousy can ruin a lot of things. It can ruin any relationship you have with anyone. Learn to be happy for people who are doing something that makes them feel good, because you never know what they are going through. That mean girl could be super insecure and those pants that look amazing on her makes her feel amazing, compliment her.
Don’t be insecure either. Being insecure can also ruin many relationships with friends and boys, and most importantly yourself. It’s going to hold you back from doing so much and experiencing so much. Love yourself from the inside out.
Dear 10-year-old me, hold on to your friends who are good to you. Cherish every moment you have with them. Cherish every moment you have with your family, because at the end of the day, they are the ones who care about you the most.
