To My Girlfriend: Thank You For Always Being There
Alex Atiyeh

Dear Lauren,

It is April 21st at around 10:30 pm and you just told me you liked my recent article to my roommate, so I figured I'd write one about you. Hope you enjoy.

I remember when I first started liking you and I described you as "AP Psych girl" to all my friends. I find that name very catchy still to this day, so I hope you like it because I'm going to start calling you that again. It was senior year and I was just going with the flow. I did my work and activities, and my goal was to just graduate and leave. Then I met you.

We played Scattegories in AP Psych one day and it was fun competing against you. I was too afraid to talk to you in random conversation, so I started by sending you Quizlets for our tests (very sly). As time went on, I really liked talking with you and seeing you in class. One day over winter break, I decided to ask you to hang out before we went back to school. I was terrified. I don't know why, I get socially awkward sometimes. Anyways, you said yes and I was super happy. We played more board games, I told you how I felt, I felt awkward for doing that, and a little over a year later here we are.

Of course not everything was smooth sailing from that point on, but I'm happy with where we are at. We hit a few bumps in the road here and there, but that's a part of the journey. What matters in the end is that we stick through it together. I feel really cheesy saying that, but it's true.

You are ALWAYS there for me regardless of what the situation is and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that. Whenever I am feeling down I know I can count on you. If I ever need to smile I know I can count on you. If I needed to call someone at 2am I know I can count on you. You do so much for me, and everything you do has a place in my heart (cheesy but true). You make me want to be a better person in life and make the right decisions. You make me more confident in myself when I am feeling low. You're like my rock and I'm Patrick Star. I don't know what I would do without that rock (I hate that I said that but I'm keeping it in).

Long distance scared me and I know you know that. It sucked at first, but I'm glad we found our way through to make it work. It makes me happy to see you on the weekends, and to see that you get along with my friends so well (both old and new). You've made me a happier person in life and I will always be thankful for that.

I do my best to be there for you. I know I can't visit every weekend because of rehearsals or something going on, but if you ever need to call me or whatever I'll be there. I want to make you happy just like you make me happy. You're not just my girlfriend, but you are my best friend. Best friends stick out for each other. You're my Pam and I am your Jim. You got me mugs that say that so it must be true.

I'm glad that we can go to sporting events or play 2k or sit down and watch some weird movie together and not get bored of one another. It makes me smile knowing that you're open to go out and do something different instead of just get dinner or something really basic.

I know I joke around with you a lot, so I want you to know that you mean a lot to me. I'm proud to be your boyfriend, and I'm happy that we are together. I don't know what the future has in store for us, but I know we will take it one day at a time, together. Thank you again for everything that you do. It means more to me than you know. I love you.

Your Friend,

Al

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
