Dear College Student,
The start of the fall semester is quickly creeping up on us. The past summer flew by and before we know it, next summer will be here. You may be super excited to get back to school to see your friends, but deep down you are a little sad to leave home. Throughout the year, you will jump through different obstacles whether it be academic challenges, missing home or just things in life that are hard. In order to help get through those obstacles or to just make life as a college student better, there are several things to keep in mind.
It may be hard now, but keep your eye on the end price. Yes, you may be struggling in your one math class, but persevering and studying hard with help you get a good grade and may help you in the future. Just do not give up.
Do not forget to have fun. College is a place where you are supposed to learn and grow, but at the same time, it is also a place where you are supposed to have fun. You do not have to get reckless every weekend, but you do deserve to get out there and make lifetime memories.
With that said, do not forget to get sleep. I know, this is kinda silly considering college students are known for taking multiple naps during that day, but it's true. Staying up all night studying for your exam the next day or trying to finish that ten page, single spaced paper can leave you tiresome. Do not deprive yourself of sleep. In order to stay focused and to do well, but to take care of your body as well, you need to take a break every once in awhile and go sleep.
Do not forget that it is okay to want to go home every once in awhile. Home is where all of your family and childhood friends are, it is most likely where you grew up and it is normal to miss it. So one weekend, pack a bag and head home so you can get recharged and go visit the people you love.
As a college student, you may be juggling your academics, maybe a job or athletics, clubs and your social life. It all can get very overwhelming and hard. You may start to feel alone and stressed, that you cannot do it alone. But do not forget that there are people cheering for you on the sidelines. Each of your professors, advisors, RA's, parents, siblings and friends are all there to help any second of the day. It's OK to use them as a resource and to lean on them. You are not going through your college experience alone, there is help and support any way you look.
As the new semester starts, go in with a positive mindset, goals and hopes for your future. Having something to look forward to will help push you to do good in school and to help get you where you need to be.
College may be four long years, but it is four years of learning and memories that make you grow into the person you are supposed to be one day. Just wait, the semester is going to go as fast as a blink of an eye, so study hard and have fun!
Sincerely,
Another College Student
