Dear Coffee,
Thank you for being you. Your pure existence keeps me going, you have seen me at my worst and through it all you have never stopped being there for me. Our relationship is one tea drinkers will never be able to understand. I know you have many lovers and although we have only been together for about two years, I know that time will only strengthen our bond.
I love you in all your forms, but taking you straight with no sugar or cream is my favorite; in my mind you don't need to be dressed up to be enjoyable. Though many shy away from your bitterness, that is what I love most about you. You can be dressed to fit almost anyone’s tastes and desires in a cup. Between a Mocha and a Latte or the newfound Flat White, there is a way for each coffee drinker to find a drink that fits them or their mood. For those that drink you purely for the taste and dislike caffeine, you offer yourself in decaf. You are the ultimate chameleon.
Whether it is an early morning cup before class, a mid-afternoon cup to keep the day going or a large late night cup to encourage studying, I have not encountered an occasion that you have failed me. You are the college student’s dream drink. Simple and cheap — depending on where you buy and how you take your coffee — there is nothing I would change about you.
You have made yourself into a social event; people frequently “go for coffee” as a way to catch up with friends. Those that do not have time to go for lunch or dinner can simply get coffee with their old friends between classes or whenever it fits into their schedules. You have made a niche in our culture. There is no time where it is unacceptable to have a cup of coffee. Your existence is unquestionable and unwavering in the lives of millions. Children look up to their parents who have a cup of coffee with their breakfast and you know they will be your future consumers.
You are the perfect filler for anyone’s empty hand, and with cups in all different shapes and sizes there is no hand too big or too small. With your different roasts and accessories there is no drink too sweet or too bitter to fit each consumers’ individual tastes.
Your aroma in itself brightens my day. The warmth of your presence makes even the coldest walk to class all that much better. It is safe to say we will be together forever. Please don’t ever change; I love you just the way you are. Through the roughest mornings and the latest nights, you have never let me down. You keep me going when I need it most. Thank you for your strength and consistency in my life. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.
