Dear
Ms. Ava Mae,
Hello,
this is your aunt speaking to you. No, it's not Aunt Sydnee, this is
the crazier aunt. You know, the one with a book in her face and who
adores your adorable cupcake oneise. By the time you read this, or in
this case your mother reads this to you, you'll be one years old on
Saturday. Last year, it was safe to say everything had been so simply
complicated. The world still spins around, the adults still struggle
to make end's meet, but when looking at someone like you, it brings a
smile to our family's faces. You became a shining hope of light, and
I'm pretty sure that is what your mother tells you everyday.
However, if you let me, can I explain my love for you? For I am not
very good at speaking them out like everyone else we know, but in
words, I have a way to say some things.
From
the moment your other aunt and I got the call saying that your
mother finally gave birth to you, we were so ecstatic. Our faces lit
up like a Christmas tree and we were so eager to meet you in person.
But, since you were born in the evening, we had to wait to meet you.
I made sure to tell the world about you and those who cared enough
wished you a grand welcome to our weird world. But when we met the
next day, it felt so weird to hold you. You were wrapped in a blanket
and you were sleeping with an innocent face. It was odd, yet it was
nice after a heated storm with college storms. Your mother was so
courageous and so natural at being your mother, I couldn't believe
how we women can be so adaptable to a role so powerful like her, like
your grandmother's, and your great grandmother Moe before you.
Soon
enough, you began to grow and oh dear, you continued to hold onto the
smiles and the large and beautiful brown eyes. It was perfect. You're
becoming a beautiful and intelligent little girl and years later, I
want to see you become a powerful woman like the rest of us in this
family. Even though you and your mother are far away, we still love
you to death. Just understand that I wish to teach you the wonders of
reading and the worlds within them with you and (maybe) your future
cousins by my side. Like your mother and Aunt Syddy, I want to give
you the world even when it shows the flaws of war, the flaws of
people hating each other. I want to show you the beauty of nature,
the gift of learning, simply everything I know your mother will teach
you soon enough, but in her own way. I promise to be here for you
whenever you want to talk to me, whenever you want to hug and cry. I
love you. The world needs to know that you are special like every
other child in the world, but you are my niece and I am blessed to
have met you. Happy first birthday Ava, you are loved for life and
beyond.
Love,
your Aunt Kair.
