A Letter To Anyone On A Snow Day

Dear Snow Dayer,

Why look at this. You have been given one of the greatest things in the world! You have been given an unexpected, unplanned day off of work and/or school. Now that you have celebrated this great news, how are you going to spend this day?

Firstly, you must not waste it. Weather is not always going to save you from having to go to school or work, but today it did so you should savor it. You must also remember that snow days also bring a lot of work at home, so you may need to plan accordingly.

Of course you should get a little bit more sleep. Sleep past your alarm and wake up feeling rejuvenated and ready for an eventful day! Stay in your pajamas a little longer as you sip your coffee or tea and watch the snow fall to see how many inches fell overnight. Once you are ready to venture outside, grab your warm boots and gloves and head out there! If you have a dog, enjoy watching them jump around in the fresh snow. If not, grab a family member or neighbor and jump around in the snow together!

After seeing how much snow you have and after playing in it a little bit, you may want to start shoveling paths to make it easier to walk. If you need to plow your own driveway, it's always a good idea to work on it a couple times during the day so it is not too difficult at the end of the day.

Now that you have gotten some work done, make sure to reward yourself with hot cocoa and snacks! It's completely acceptable to watch a movie or an episode or two of your favorite show, but don't get sucked in. Remember that it was Mother Nature who gave you the day off, so thank her by appreciating the beautiful snow outside.

Get back out there and build a snowman or make a snow angel. Who knows, you may need to shovel another path because your original one has been covered by snow again. If you don't park your car in a garage, you may need to check on how buried that is.

When you get back inside, make yourself a nice treat. Maybe try one of those Tasty recipes you see on Facebook and never have the time to make. Paint your nails or put on a facial mask. You should truly enjoy this day off.

If you have work to do, get that done so you do not need to worry about it later tonight or tomorrow. Don't let yourself get overly stressed because there is no need to be stressed on a snow day!

Overall, your snow day should be relaxing, rewarding, and full of fun! Don't forget to play in the snow and create paths out of your house. It's not every day that you get a snow day, so truly enjoy it!

I hope this advice is helpful, I'll see you out in the snow!

From,

A "skilled" snow dayer

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
