To all of my fellow pet owners,
We all know how much we love our fur-babies. They become part of our families, our greatest friends. Losing them is incredibly painful. When you’ve had a pet who has literally grown up with you and all of a sudden they’re not there, it sucks. My friends, this is a letter to my old friend, Thunder, and it is for all the fur-babies you have lost. They are well loved and well remembered.
Thunder, you’ve been in my life since I was two. I don’t remember a time when you weren’t around. You were always the friendliest cat we had and would make it a point to make yourself heard. Sometimes it was obnoxious, like at 2 a.m. when I’m trying to sleep, but I enjoyed meowing back to you at dinnertime when you wanted to be fed.
You always jumped up on countertops and usually ate things you shouldn’t have. Whenever someone was around or near the bathroom, you would sit on the counter and yell until someone came around and turned the water on for you. Laughing, you would stick your paw under the stream of water and lick your foot. You would always get so confused when I turned the water off. You’d look at where the water was for a moment, then turn your head and scowl at me and saunter off.
When you got older, you would come and sit on my chest for hours while I watched TV with everyone, purring and shedding all the while. You would cry until someone picked you up and gave you attention and head-butt them affectionately. You would wail until we fed you at dinner time, and you always tried to eat everyone else’s food, including mine at breakfast time.
Now it’s time to say good-bye. I hope you’ve found Storm and are running around play-fighting (or maybe just fighting) like you used to. I’ll miss your purrs and your cuddles, your late-night meows and your mid-afternoon snores and all of your quirks. I’ll miss you. I hope to see you again one day. I hope your days are filled with sunshine spots, bowls of milk and loads of cuddles. Rest in peace, old friend, and try not to get into too much trouble.
Our pets are some of our dearest friends. My love goes out to any of you who have lost a fuzzy friend, and I hope you have another furry creature to give you a head bump to tell you it will be okay.
