Dear 2016,
Well, times almost up. 2017 is coming soon, an entire year comes to a close. In this year I’ve experienced so many things. It’s hard to fathom the idea that it has only been 12 months, it feels so much longer. I’ve experienced so many important times in someone’s life, in just one year. 2016, you were really the end of a huge chapter and the beginning of another one.
Graduating
It’s been about 7 months since I graduated high school. Talk about a life change. 13 years of your life ending in one walk across an old stage surrounded by around 400 classmates. People that you would see down the halls every day, turn into Facebook friends and acquaintances. Friends disperse and begin to start their lives. College
Going to a new school is always tough. Now when that school is college and it is an hour and a half away from home, it seems absolutely terrifying. Georgia Southern University has definitely welcomed me, and I've made a new life for myself in Statesboro. I've made so many friends and a boyfriend here. The ability to take a leap into adulthood while still having a little bit of child-like ideals is fascinating. Being able to having fun with my friends while staying serious about school is one of the best things college adds to someone. College has been a lot of firsts for me, and I think that's the best part. Also, I'm in the process of being accepted into a leadership position with the dorms on campus, which is so exciting. It seems everything has worked out in a really great way.
Relationships
As a new year comes in, you have to mix in the past and the present. I've had the opportunity to make amazing friends, both in high school and college. I hope to continue these on through my years. I've made amazing connections with friends in my life and I will always cherish them. Connections like these you don't just forget about. This year I have gained and lost friends, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. In the long run, you'll experience so many people and it's nice to have the few good ones to stick around.
My Hopes for 2017
In the new year, I hope for success. Success with my friendships, my relationships, and my school life. Dale Carnegie said it best, "The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore". Next year, I'm going to dare to be great. I advise the rest of the world to do the same. This year I happened to get a position writing for Odyssey, and it's probably one of the best things I could've done. Next year, big things are coming; prepare yourself. Thanks 2016, it's been real.
