Dear 16 year old me,
Stop letting people into your life that do not belong there, remember not everything that glitters is gold. Not everyone that says they are your friend is on your side. The people who are truly your friends will be there through the good, bad and ugly.
Don't worry about being popular or being liked by everyone. In four years you will be in college and no one is going to care who liked you in high school or if you were "popular."
Never give up your morals or beliefs for a temporary guy. He may say that he loves you and that he is yours forever. If that is true he will still be there in the end while you keep your morals intact.
Spend time with your family. Yes I know, you just turned 16 and the world is at your fingertips. However, your little brothers won't always be little and your parents won't always be young.
Love yourself first. Before you try and give your heart away to someone make sure that you love the person that you are. If you aren't happy with yourself you can't expect anyone else to make you happy.
Laugh. Life is not that serious. While there are moments that you should take seriously, laughter can cure the worst heartbreaks and get you through the hardest times.
Don't wish your life away. It may seem like you will always be young and always have to follow your parent's rules, but the truth is, life goes by so fast. One second you are 16 and cheering for your high school football team and you blink and you are about to graduate college.
Take in every little moment. You will want to go back and relive some moments and want to forget about others. Whether it was a good moment or a bad one, learn from your mistakes and take the good times with you.
Love,
20 year old you
