To The Girl Who Is Too Busy Worrying About Her Future
Hanna Niebuhr

It is the start of a new year, a new semester and new beginnings. For many, this is a time that is exciting, but for some, this means the stresses of school and everyday life start to creep back into your life. To the girl who is too busy worrying about her future, I hope this letter finds you and encourages you in some sort of way.

To the girl who is too busy worrying about her future, please do not forget to take time for yourself. Often times, preparing for the future for most college students means staying up until the wee hours of the night studying, typing papers, and completing assignments. I know the feeling when it is so hard to let go and relax until an assignment is completed and turned in. I know the feeling of reaching a point in the semester where I am burnt out and just need a break.

To that girl who worries, just like I do, take care of yourself. Even if that means going to bed at 10 P.M. on a Friday night, do it.Take three minutes in the morning and enjoy your cup of coffee before your day starts. I know the future seems overwhelmingly daunting, but what is even more daunting is spending so much time focused on the future that you forget to take care of yourself.

To the girl that is too busy worrying about her future, please find lifelong friends that support you no matter how stressed you are. I am so guilty of becoming wrapped up in school and my future that I take for granted the friendships that I have. Friends are there to support us along the way, even when we get stressed out.

The best way to take on challenges is to find friends who are willing to support us through those challenges. My dad once told me that you can never do life alone, and I firmly believe that. Do not spend so much time worrying about the future that you forget to have lifelong friendships.

To the girl too busy worrying about her future, it will all work out. We can only prepare so much for the future, and there comes a point where you have to let go and let things work themselves out. For me, the worries of my future include getting into graduate school, passing the PRAXIS, and most importantly, getting a job teaching. Things will work themselves out.

Applying for graduate school is not until another year, so for the next year, do not work yourself to death worrying about something that is far in the future. What is meant to be will be.

To the girl too busy worrying about her future, I hope you can let go and learn to love life. Find something that makes you smile each day, instead of something that makes you worry. Find something that you love and have a burning passion for. Learn to fall in love with life. Try new things. Stop worrying, because in the end, it will all work itself out.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
