Dear Parents,
Whether you’re a single parent, step parent or foster parent just any type of parent, thank you. Thank you for all you’ve done for us. No one said parenthood would be easy, in fact it's more like a second job. I feel like us kids under appreciate all that you do for us. The minute you decide to have us, you gave away your alone time. You have silently devoted all your attention to us and we barely even notice until we get older. You stay in late for us, instead of going out with your childless friends. You started eating healthy and taking vitamins, because you knew it would help influence us. You got a serious job to pay the bills and lost endless amount of sleep at night by taking care of us whenever we needed it.
Thank you for holding our hand's we took our first steps and for holding our air when we got the flu for the first time. For placing that cold towel on our forehead and telling us "you will be okay and that if you could take the pain away you would." Thank you. for all the "I love you" notes in our lunch boxes even if it was, at times, embarrassing. Thank you, for being there for the first break up and saying "there are so many other fish in the sea." Thank you, for being there when all the bullies were in full force even if I wanted to fight my own battles (I secretly was blessed to know I had a small army behind me). Thank you, for making us push ourselves to excel in school, I can say, I wouldn’t be where I am in today if it wasn’t for my devoted parental units. For always reminding me that I am smarter then I think I am. Thank you for stalking my social media just to make sure we are okay. Thank you for pulling cars out of the ditch when we got into our first car accidents. Thank you for all the obnoxious pictures over the years, I now have ways to reminisce over memories. Thank you for all the texts and phone calls just as a reminder that you love us. Thank you for believing in us when we felt nobody else would. Thank you for the endless support in anything we chose to succeed or fail in. Thank you for offering your hand or shoulder to cry on when we felt utterly alone. Thanks for giving us your warm embrace whether you knew what was going on or not. Thank you for being the reason we would laugh when we were sad.
Sometimes, I feel like we forget to thank our parents for all they’ve done for us. For all the compassion they have given us over the years. They’re our tiny angels watching over us, making us feel safe even when they’re not around.
Most parents, have been through hell and back, as mine have for me and I can’t thank them enough. Honestly, I wish there were more things I could do to thank you, but hopefully this letter is a start.
So thank you for being our parents.
