First, let me say congratulations. The college selection process is incredibly stressful, overwhelming and pressurizing, but you finally made it to the end. That's a feat that should definitely make you proud. I understand that while the weight that had been sitting on your shoulders for the past few years (it's a bit ridiculous that college hunts start so early!) there may be some new concerns. Right now certainly is not the time to focus on them, since you just committed to the school of your dreams and are preparing to embark on an incredible new adventure.
The newness, though, might be what is the cause of this concern. If you are starting to worry, I have to tell you that it's natural. This change is massive, no matter if you are riding planes or driving down the road to reach your campus. The atmosphere of a college is so much different than college. Within a few weeks, you'll be wondering how you ever managed to wake up at 5:30am only to sit in school for eight hours per day.
Obviously, though, your main concern probably isn't waking up in time for class. In fact, I can assure you that you've got that down. There are billions of thoughts running through your head. You've known your graduating class for at least four years, but now, it'll be a different ballgame. While some of your current peers may be attending the same school, there will be an entire new pool of classmates. As intimidating as that may sound, I promise that it's not that scary. In fact, starting conversations with strangers may be taboo now, but in college, talking to the kid sitting next to you in class might be helpful.
My biggest piece of advice to you is to get involved as much as you can. It'll definitely be an adjustment getting used to this new life, but getting involved on campus will help you settle in and meet some new people along the way. The campus organizations that I am involved in are some of my favorite ways to spend my time and I hope that you find those places for yourself! All you have to do is take the first step.
Of course, nothing is set in stone to be perfect, so don't be upset or worse, disappointed in yourself, if things are not ideal. Give everything your best shot, but definitely don't beat yourself up if this lifestyle isn't ideal for you and your needs. Go in with the best expectations, but don't put any pressure on this new start. It's supposed to be enjoyable and the start of a new, amazing, chapter.
I wish you the best of luck. My last reminder is to enjoy the rest of your senior year, of course. It's going to be filled with amazing memories and you should definitely enjoy it while you can.
Good Luck,
A girl realizing that junior year is around the corner
